Akdam is a large late antique / Byzantine town with a basilica.  The few surviving columns indicate that the interior of this church was divided into a nave and flanking aisles.  The apsidioles flanking the central apse are very asymmetrical.  This site is located on a road between Sis and Çem and on a route south to the Mediterranean Sea.  The widespread discovery of 13th and 14th c. Armenian coins indicates that Akdam was occupied in the medieval period.
