Çandır [Grk: Papourion or Papirion; Arm: Papeṙōn, Papeṙon, Papeṙawn or Baberon] was the baronial stronghold of the Hetʽumid dynasty and contains today the impressive remains of numerous structures, including a residential complex and basilica.  The latter preserves the chevet of two stories as well as an ornate xacʽkar and south door.  All is of Armenian construction except for the scattered traces of Byzantine-period masonry.  This site is located in the middle of a cluster of fortifications that once guarded routes to Cappadocia, Lampron, and Gülek.
