Karafrenk is
a garrison fortress built with dark stones, a square plan, and round corner
towers. It may be of Byzantine
construction, or more likely the Arab fort of al-Kanīsah as-Sawdāʼ or the Crusader site known as the Black Tower. It guarded routes from Cilicia Pedias to the
Maraş-Antioch highway via the Amanus and Bahçe passes and is located near both
Savranda and Hasanbeyli.
