Ak is
an Armenian garrison fortress and chapel.
The latter is positioned at the extreme north on the highest point in
the east bailey. The lower west bailey
is separated from its counterpart at the east by a barrier of rocks and sharply
falling cliffs. This site once guarded a
strategic road from Kadirli in northern Cilicia Pedias north to Geben and
Cappadocia.
