: view E into apse of the Church of the Holy Cross at Aghtʽamar. At the time that the church was converted into a mosque the original painted plaster was covered by a bluish lime-based wash. Seepage from rain and melting snow have caused a chemical reaction that destroyed much of the original art (Robert W. Edwards, 1973)
